Production Engineer

Location: Leeds

Salary: £18.20 per hour

About the Role: A leading precision engineering company in Leeds is looking for an experienced Production Engineer to join their team. This role is ideal for a time-served engineer with strong CAD/CAM expertise, five-axis machining experience, and a solid understanding of GD&T. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in optimising production processes, supporting CNC programming, and preparing for a transition into a production control-focused position.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Improve production efficiency and reduce waste.
  2. Develop and optimise CNC programs, with a focus on five-axis machining.
  3. Work closely with the sales team to create accurate quotations for new products.
  4. Train and mentor the engineering team, supporting their development in production control.
  5. Reduce setup times and maximise machine utilisation.
  6. Review bills of materials and manage production documentation.
  7. Promote best practices in safety and quality across all operations.
Key Requirements:
  1. Time-served engineer with a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
  2. Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  3. Extensive CAD/CAM experience, ideally with FeatureCAM.
  4. Hands-on experience in five-axis machining.
  5. Experience machining exotic materials (but not essential).
  6. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
  7. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and an interest in production control.
