Production Development Engineer – Precision Engineering & Automation

Location: Denton, Bradbury

Company Overview: A well-known engineering company, supplying renowned products globally, is looking for a skilled Production Development Engineer to join their expanding team. With a strong order book and an increasing number of new projects, this is an exciting time to be part of a forward-thinking business at the forefront of precision engineering. They are focused on improving efficiencies, cost reduction, and transitioning towards greater automation and robotics within their production environment.

The Role: Due to continued demand and new product development, the company is looking for a Production Development Engineer to bridge the gap between Production and Design. This role is critical in implementing automation solutions, enhancing manufacturing processes, and ensuring smooth new product introductions. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, you will play a key role in optimising production capabilities and driving innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Work on new product introductions, ensuring seamless transition from design to full-scale production.
  • Prove out design variants on existing machinery, including bending, laser marking, and other precision engineering processes.
  • Integrate and optimise robotic automation, particularly Cobots, to enhance production workflows.
  • Collaborate with Production and Design teams to ensure efficient and well-documented processes.
  • Identify and implement lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations and minimise waste.
  • Manage engineering documentation, ensuring all process developments are recorded accurately.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5-7 years of experience in a Production or Manufacturing Engineering role within a precision engineering, CNC, or assembly environment.
  • Strong technical skills, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and process optimisation.
  • Background in automation and robotics (experience with Cobots would be highly beneficial but not essential).
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working closely with production teams and gaining buy-in for process improvements.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies such as Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, 5S, and Kanban.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software and knowledge of engineering drawing standards (GD&T).
  • Degree or time-served qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
