The Production Apprenticeship Scheme helps you to gain experience with our BBC production teams across the UK, making world-class content for our audiences on radio, TV or digital platforms. You'll learn on-the-job as part of a BBC production team, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, while working towards your Production apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship?

As a Production Apprentice, you'll learn a wide range of skills and gain a breadth of real-life experience which may include helping to develop ideas and stories; learning how to use technical equipment and specialist software; assisting your team on location/in studio; finding guests and participants; researching content; creating content for social media; helping out/'running' on the studio floor; in a TV gallery or in a radio studio. All the while, you'll be learning content-making skills from experienced production team members as well as expert BBC trainers.

What will you be studying?

You'll study for your industry-recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job. This involves learning about audiences, how production teams work, content making in audio and video as well as skills to equip you for a career in production at the BBC or in the wider creative industry.

Where could the role take you?

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to look for job opportunities inside or outside the BBC such as Runner, Junior Researcher, Content Assistant or Edit Assistant, Technical Operator (depending on your placement choice).

This scheme starts in September 2025 and you will be on a fixed-term contract which means your contract is for the duration of the apprenticeship only. The duration of this scheme is 17 months.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PLACEMENT

As a Production Apprentice in BBC Live Music & Events, you will work as part of Radio 1 Big Weekend, Radio 2 in the Park, 6 Music Festival, or Asian Network live. The Live Music team work across a variety of BBC and Festivals events and deliver hundreds of Live Music sessions to ensure popular music is at the Heart of BBC output. As a team, we work to bring people together for unforgettable live music content, reflecting the musical diversity of the UK.

As an apprentice working in Live Events with BBC Popular Music you can expect to work across a huge variety of music moments for Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, Asian Network, 1Xtra and BBC Introducing. You'll be assigned to work with a Live Music Producer to learn about key skills and responsibilities and support the live music production. As your confidence grows you will be assigned to develop your skills and experience in live music.

Tasks you can expect to be involved with include: creating production schedules; coordinating the technical requirements for live music recording; editing music for broadcast, preparing the studio for live music broadcast and planning and organising live music broadcasts.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:
  • Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2025
  • By the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025, have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for a minimum of 3 years
  • Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract
  • Not currently taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.


To apply for this scheme, you must also:
  • Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level.

Apprentices starting at the BBC from September 2025 will be placed on a 'Fixed Term' contract. This means your contract is for the duration of your apprenticeship only.
