Intermediary Relationships Industrial Placement

As part of the Product & Propositions Industrial Placement, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to inform your career choices and contribute to the development and improvement of Nationwide’s processes, products and services in your department.

Over the course of 12 months, you’ll join either our Mortgages Home or Retail Products team. You will build your skills and knowledge throughout your time on the programme, gaining exposure to product pricing, performance and planning, customer research and process improvement.

We’ll need you to build rewarding relationships across the organisation and externally to understand customer needs, resolve problems and support the delivery of the Society blueprint.

You’ll also attend development workshops and complete a project with other Industrial Placements aligned to our Social Impact strategy. Our Industrial Placements provide a direct pathway to our graduate development programmes post-University.

The Product & Propositions Industrial Placement spans two of our business functions: Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing and Retail. When joining the Product & Propositions Industrial Placement, you’ll specifically operate in either:

Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing, which focuses on anything and everything to do with the mortgage products and services we offer our customers, to make sure we attract and retain as many customers as we can to help maintain our position as one of the UK’s largest lenders.

Retail Products which focuses on making it simple for everyone to get the banking, saving and borrowing products they need. Unsecured lending is at the core of our new strategy, and you can play a part in helping to manage and set pricing strategies to grow over £4bn of personal loans, credit card and overdraft balances.

Location

For Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing, you’ll spend at least two days per week, based at either our Swindon or Bournemouth office.

For Retail Products, you’ll spend at least two days per week, based at either Swindon or London offices.

What you’ll be doing

On the Product & Propositions Industrial Placement, you’ll develop over a 12-month period gaining the knowledge, skills and network our Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing and Retail functions require and provide you with experiences to inform your future career choices.

The Industrial Placement journey will focus on developing Product knowledge, monitoring product performance and having exposure to product design, customer research, and process improvement across multiple projects.

  • Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing: You’ll rotate around the Mortgage Product team, spending time getting to understand areas like mortgage pricing, learning how we price our products to meet member needs whilst delivering the right commercial return; product development, helping us launch new products to meet member needs; data and insight; building skills in data analytics to help us understand our customers better; customer management, ensuring our products meet customer needs, deliver fair outcomes and operate in line with regulations. All placements will help develop your analytical skills and commercial judgement, as well as giving you the opportunity to take insight and proposal papers to senior leaders and committees.
  • Retail Products: You’ll work in our Pricing & Performance Team, who are responsible for setting and monitoring trading objectives for our banking products, understanding what’s happening across the industry and how Nationwide benchmarks against other lenders. You’ll use internal and external information to build understanding and insight of product and market performance and effectively communicate this to key stakeholders, as well as using your commercial, numerical, and analytical skills to produce insight and develop pricing proposals to meet trading objectives. You’ll also support with analysis to inform decisions that play a vital role in managing performance and enabling us to drive good customer outcomes.

  • Experience using software such as SAS, SQL, Python would be useful but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Through research and experience, you’ll have commercial awareness of Nationwide Building Society and the Financial Services industry.

Entry requirements

The 12-month placement runs from Sept 2025 – Sept 2026.

You must be studying toward an undergraduate degree in any discipline.
