Job Description

Product Owner (Maximo and Cognos) - Submarines

Derby

Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Maximo & Cognos Product Owner role at Rolls-Royce Submarines supporting the continuous development of IBM Maximo and Cognos within the business.

You will leverage our in-service data to enhance our asset management capabilities and will work with the business to extend the scope of datasets managed by the system. You will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the effective use of IBM Maximo and Cognos, providing actionable analytics and reporting to support informed decision-making. Experience with Maximo and Cognos is highly beneficial for this role.

In this role, you will engage with diverse stakeholders and help deliver innovative solutions. Our Agile Scrum framework allows for collaboration across various products, offering exposure to different areas of the business and the wider Rolls-Royce.

This role is situated within our Service Data Centre department that focuses on leveraging in-service data to enhance operational efficiency and support the development of innovative solutions.

We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

What we offer:

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading Product Delivery: You will be responsible for delivering new, high-value products while maintaining and enhancing the capabilities of existing products. Your strategic oversight will ensure that we consistently meet stakeholder needs and deliver exceptional value.
  • Collaborating in an Agile Environment: Working within a Scrum software development framework, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary developers, Scrum Masters, and other Product Owners.
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships: You will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, educating them on Agile Scrum development processes to set clear expectations and maximize collaboration. Your ability to build and nurture these relationships will be essential in enabling the delivery of valued products.
  • Documentation and Backlog Management: You will create comprehensive documentation, which could include quality standards and technical specifications, to support the development process. Additionally, you will take ownership of and prioritise product backlogs, creating product visions, developing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, and crafting detailed product roadmaps to ensure the team delivers effectively.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experience in Project Delivery: It is desirable that you have a background in project delivery, preferably relating to software development. Experience in Agile practices, preferably as a Product Owner is beneficial.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential for this role. You will need to communicate, challenge, and own the product vision and convey this to a diverse set of stakeholders, each with varying technical and data analytics backgrounds.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: You should be comfortable working in dynamic environments and adapting to changing priorities. Your flexibility will be crucial in responding to evolving stakeholder needs and project requirements.
  • Analytical and Strategic Thinking: We seek someone with strong prioritisation and rationalisation skills who can break down complex problems into smaller, elegant solutions. Your analytical mindset will help identify and resolve project and product issues, ensuring a smooth workflow and successful outcomes.
  • Proactive and Detail-Oriented: You will need to demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude with a focus on delivering high-quality work. Being detail-oriented and hands-on will enable you to manage the complexities of the role effectively.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
