Job description

Are you an experienced procurement professional looking for an exciting new opportunity within the public sector? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Procurement Officer to join our Commissioning and Procurement Service, working alongside the Service Manager - Commissioning and Procurement (Place and Resources) to deliver high-quality procurement support across the Place and Resources directorate.

The Role

As a Procurement Officer, You Will Be Responsible For

  1. Providing procurement advice and support to services, ensuring compliance with public procurement regulations and West Berkshire Council's Contract Rules of Procedure.
  2. Managing procurement processes from initial scoping and market engagement through to contract award and handover.
  3. Conducting supplier market assessments and applying appropriate procurement strategies to achieve value for money and cashable savings.
  4. Supporting contract management and supplier relationship management activities to drive performance and continuous improvement.
  5. Maintaining accurate procurement data and producing reports for senior management and elected members.
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  1. Proven experience in a procurement role, ideally within a public sector environment.
  2. Sound knowledge of public procurement regulations and best practices.
  3. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise colleagues at all levels.
  4. Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple procurement projects simultaneously.
  5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.
This role is fixed term until 03/11/2026 – Interim support (short term organisational change)
