Job description

Process Operator / Production Operative with experience working with highly hazardous liquids within a bulk liquid storage environment such as Fuel / Oil and Gas, Chemicals or Water Treatments is required for Oikos Storage Ltd based in Canvey Island, Essex.

This role is known internally as a Fuel Terminal Shift Operator

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Rotating Shifts including days, nights, weekends and public holidays

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Process Operator / Production Operative with experience working with highly hazardous liquids within a bulk liquid storage environment such as Fuel / Oil and Gas, Chemicals or Water Treatments.

As the Process Operator / Production Operative, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the fuel terminal facilities, ensuring safe and efficient loading, unloading, and storage of petroleum products.

The Process Operator / Production Operative will make prompt, clear decisions which may involve tough choices or considered risks and will establish good relationships with customers and staff.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the Process Operator / Production Operative will include:

  • Operate and monitor terminal equipment including pumps, valves, and meters
  • Ensure the safe loading and unloading of tankers and vessels
  • Inspect and maintain the terminal equipment to ensure operational efficiency
  • Record data related to the transfer of products, including quantities, temperature, and pressure
  • Conduct regular safety checks to ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor operational issues and report any major issues to the supervisor
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth operations
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and participate in environmental initiatives
  • Respond to emergencies and spills according to the company’s safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of all operations and reports

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience within bulk liquid storage industry
  • Strong understanding of safety and environmental protocols, equipment, and hazardous materials handling
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot terminal equipment and computer-based control systems
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and medical screening

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work for extended periods of time
  • Working at Height - Comfortable climbing tanks with heights of 20 metres

Desirable

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, technical or vocational training in a related field preferred
  • Previous experience in terminal operations, logistics, or related fields is preferred
