Taylor Root is pleased to be exclusively working with a rapidly growing international education business to recruit a Privacy Counsel that will also act as the Group DPO.

Our client is one of the most exciting businesses in the education sector. They operate over 100 schools in 24 countries and have 90,000 students.

The Privacy Counsel and Data Protection Officer will lead the data strategy for the business globally and will also support colleagues in several territories. This is a truly exciting role that will allow the successful candidate to shape the data protection framework for a complex global business.

The role

  1. Acting as the primary point of contact for data protection queries across the group.
  2. Identifying and assessing privacy risks within the UK and at group level, and developing and actioning strategy to address risks.
  3. Hosting the Group Privacy Steering Committee.
  4. Continuing the existing programme of implementing the privacy governance framework and supporting policies and procedures to manage data privacy in the UK and internationally. Communicating the UK framework to the various businesses outside of the UK by way of knowledge sharing.

About you

You must have at least 5 - 10 years of work experience in a Privacy or Data Protection related role. This experience would ideally have been gained in a global business. Prior experience as a DPO is a plus.

You will also have:

  1. Qualified Lawyer ideally in the UK or EU.
  2. In-depth understanding of European and UK data privacy and data protection regulation, and an awareness of other major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide.
  3. Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with people at all organisational levels.
  4. Detail-oriented approach needed to recommend and implement strategic improvements on a range of data privacy and data protection issues.
  5. Hold at least one data protection and/or privacy certification, such as CIPP, CIPT, CIPM, ISEB, etc., or willingness to achieve within a short period of joining.
