We have an exciting opportunity for a Prison Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Bullingdon, a category B Prison located in Bicester, Oxford.

HMP Bullingdon is a male remand prison that has a capacity for 1,152 and offers 24 hours healthcare with an inpatient unit on-site.

Hours

37.5 hours - Day shifts will vary from 7.30-7.30, 10-10pm, 7.30-5.30pm. This will include working every other weekend, bank holidays, and night shifts. This can include working in all areas of the prison but mainly reception areas.

Salary

This position is full-time, you'll receive an annual salary up to £52,507 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Prison Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Ensure patients have medical plans of care, assessing patients and carrying out relevant clinical investigations during their arrival, along with arranging follow-up appointments for them whilst offering advice and giving information.
  • Clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to acute hospitals if needed, as well as ensuring that plans of care are understood by the patient and the prison as appropriate. You will demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision making.
  • Support in undertaking audits and governance.
  • Provide healthcare to patients on site in the healthcare unit in the prison. This will include some emergency care such as suturing, providing emergency response, undertaking dressings, and performing a primary care function.
