The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Principal Bridges Engineer to join BEAR Scotland. This is a fantastic opportunity to manage and deliver critical bridge maintenance projects across Scotland. The role will focus on bridge maintenance scheme delivery, team leadership, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Team Leadership: Assist a Principal Engineer in supervising a small team of Engineers and Technicians, alongside sub-consultants and contractors.
  2. Project Delivery: Manage the identification, investigation, outline, and detailed design of bridge maintenance schemes.
  3. Technical Compliance: Ensure compliance with technical standards and manage the submission of Departures from Standard where applicable.
  4. Project Management: Produce tender documents, evaluate tenders, oversee procurement, and award contracts.
  5. Financial Control: Monitor and manage the financial performance of projects.
  6. Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards: Ensure robust risk assessments, compliance with CDM Regulations, and environmental screening prior to works.
  7. Collaboration: Liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and auditors.
  8. Documentation Management: Coordinate the production, issue, and archiving of all drawings, documents, and scheme files.

Your Skills and Experience

We are interested in hearing from candidates with the following qualifications and skills:

Essential:
  1. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  2. Professional Qualification: Membership at IEng or CEng level with a recognised body (e.g., MICE, MIStructE, IHE).
  3. Demonstrated experience in the design and maintenance of highway bridge structures.
  4. Strong project management, leadership, and communication skills.
  5. Proficient understanding of health, safety, and statutory processes.
  6. A full UK driving licence is essential.
