Principal Process Engineer - Water/Wastewater
Location: Sheffield (Hybrid)

Join a Global Engineering Leader Delivering a Landmark £100 Million Water Sector Project


Our client, a global engineering consultancy, has secured a major £100 million programme within the UK water sector. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer with a background in wastewater treatment to support delivery of innovative and sustainable infrastructure projects.


This is a hybrid role based out of Sheffield, offering the opportunity to be involved in technically complex, multidisciplinary projects that make a real impact on communities and the environment.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the technical delivery of wastewater and clean water projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations, budgets, and schedules.
  2. Produce, review, verify, and approve key process documents, including:
    1. Process design calculations
    2. Process flow diagrams (PFDs)
    3. Equipment specifications
    4. Process control philosophies
    5. Performance reports and schematics
  3. Provide process optimisation and technical advisory services for new and existing treatment facilities and pumping stations.
  4. Act as Process Design Lead on assigned projects, using and developing modern digital design tools and methodologies.
  5. Collaborate with laboratories and software teams to develop advanced process and data optimisation tools.
  6. Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, ICA, and structural engineering teams.
  7. Build and maintain strong client and partner relationships within delivery alliances.
  8. Ensure compliance with technical, safety, quality, legislative, and environmental standards.
  9. Mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff.
  10. Contribute to knowledge sharing and the implementation of innovative process approaches.
  11. Promote the Process team's capabilities both internally and to external partners and stakeholders.

Skills and Experience
  1. In-depth technical experience delivering complex water and wastewater process engineering projects.
  2. Proficiency in digital design methodologies and project delivery tools.
  3. Proven leadership ability in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  4. Experience in both design and construction stages of water sector projects.

Qualifications
  1. Preferably degree-qualified in Chemical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline (postgraduate qualifications are an advantage).
  2. Chartered, or actively working towards chartership (IChemE, CIWEM, or equivalent).
  3. Membership in a relevant professional institution or close to application.
