iO Associates are partnering with a pioneering leader in clean energy technology to recruit a Principal Process Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to work on transformative projects in green hydrogen production and fuel cell technology, driving decarbonization in heavy industries like steelmaking.

About the Role:


As a Principal Process Engineer, you will take a leading role in designing, deploying, and operating Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems for large-scale process plants. Working within the Systems Engineering Department, you will provide technical leadership on major projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and collaborate with global partners to integrate and industrialize cutting-edge energy solutions.
Your role will include leading new process designs, conducting hazard analysis (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID), and managing the commissioning and operation of systems. You will also mentor junior engineers, ensuring best practices are implemented and maintained across projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with global partners to understand requirements and specifications for electrolyser systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for major projects, coordinating teams and managing external contractors and suppliers.
  • Design, build, commission, and operate Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems in partnership with customers.
  • Develop mass and energy balance diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs for new process designs.
  • Lead hazard analysis studies (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID) and communicate findings to project teams.
  • Oversee engineering processes, ensuring continuous improvement in line with organisational needs.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
What We're Looking For:
Educational Background:
    • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in Chemical, Process, or Bioprocess Engineering (or a related field).

Experience:

  • Proven experience in designing, constructing, commissioning, and operating process plants.
  • Expertise in process design methods, tools, and industry standards (API, ASTM, ASME).
  • Strong background in hazard analysis and risk management.
  • Extensive experience managing large technical teams and coordinating complex projects.
  • Experience in chemical, refining, gas processing, pharmaceutical, or water processing industries.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of equipment, piping, control systems, and electrical/electronic systems design.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and project documentation.
