Salary: Grade 5, £49,522 - £56,230 per annum (pay award pending)

We are seeking a Principal Planning Policy Officer to take a lead role in the writing and preparation of the update of the Council’s Local Plan, a key document setting out the vision and growth strategy for the District. Managing and organising the production of individual documents within and informing the Local Plan to meet the milestones in the local development scheme. Supporting the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans throughout the production process including new designations for Neighbourhood Areas.

As our Principal Planning Policy Officer you will:
You will have experience of working in a planning in a private or public sector environment and will know the importance the role that the Local Plan plays in shaping the future of the district. You will take pride in your work and have demonstrable CPD showing that your knowledge of planning process and law is up to date and to a high standard.
The work that you will carry out will shape the future of development over each plan period; your experience of delivering a Local Plan and related documents will be utilised and built on to meet the needs of the residents and the aspirations of the Council.
On a day-to-day basis your role will be varied, mentoring more junior team members, dealing with contractors and drafting policy. You will engage in face-to-face consultations with residents using excellent communication skills to answer questions on all topics and be a lead point of contact different aspects of the Local Plan and other related documents.
You will have the opportunity to grow and develop in different areas alongside developing the team in your areas of expertise. A willingness to work together and demonstrable collaborative skills will be required as well as excellent organisation skills and a desire to deliver an optimal service.
