Are you an experienced town planner looking for a rewarding opportunity to lead and shape the future of North London's urban landscape? Carrington West is pleased to be partnered with a local planning authority who are currently seeking a talented Principal Planning Officer to join their esteemed team situated in the vibrant borough of North London. As a key member of our planning department, you will take on a leadership role, overseeing a diverse portfolio of planning applications, policy development projects, and regeneration initiatives to drive sustainable growth and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Planning: Lead the development and implementation of local planning policies, frameworks, and strategies to guide sustainable development and address emerging challenges.
  2. Development Control: Manage a caseload of complex planning applications, appeals, and enforcement matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, policies, and best practice.
  3. Project Management: Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver major development projects and regeneration schemes from inception to completion.
  4. Policy Development: Contribute expertise and insights to the formulation and review of local planning policies, including the Local Plan, Supplementary Planning Documents, and Neighbourhood Plans.
  5. Community Engagement: Engage with residents, businesses, community groups, and elected members to facilitate meaningful participation in the planning process and address local concerns.
Requirements:
  1. Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent professional qualification.
  2. Extensive experience working in a planning role within a local authority or similar public sector environment, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality planning outcomes.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of planning legislation, policy frameworks, and best practice guidelines relevant to urban and environmental planning.
  4. Strong leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and stakeholders.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  6. Proficiency in using planning-related software and digital tools, such as GIS, CAD, and planning application systems.
