We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking Pharmacy Technician to join our team to provide high-quality medicines management to the virtual ward.

The post holder will provide a clinical pharmacy service to a group of wards under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist and will be primarily responsible for service provision to the virtual ward, both adults and paediatrics.


You must be registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician and hospital experience is desirable.


Main duties of the job

The post holder has responsibility to lead and develop all aspects of the virtual ward for pharmacy, working with the Lead Pharmacist Virtual Ward. The post holder will also directly line manage a Band 3 ATO virtual ward.


To ensure the safe and timely provision of all in-patient medicines reconciliation, inpatient and discharge medication supply and medication counselling services to wards as a senior member of the clinical pharmacy technician team.

The post will be based at the pharmacy department Darent Valley Hospital, and we are looking for a person who can provide enhanced management and coordination skills to drive forward our service.


Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative, and able to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. You must possess good IT skills.

Education and Training
Essential
  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Service
  • Registered with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Nationally recognised Medicines Management qualification
  • National Accreditation in accuracy checking (ACPT)
  • Practice Supervisor Accreditation or equivalent teaching accreditation.

Desirable
  • Studied to degree level
  • Management or Leadership qualification, willingness to undertake if not already held
  • TAQA assessors award or equivalent

  • Knowledge of a range of specialist Pharmacy procedures and/or practices

Experience
Essential
  • Extensive experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Working with Standard Operating Procedures for a range of Pharmacy processes
  • Working autonomously within set procedures, preferably within the Pharmacy specialty
  • Proven experience of executing management and leadership processes
  • Demonstrable experience of multidisciplinary team (MDT) working

Desirable
  • Experience using Electronic Prescribing Medicines Administration (ePMA) systems in secondary care
  • Hospital experience
  • Experience of undertaking reporting project & audit work
  • Experience of hospital discharge processes
