Principal Pharmacist for Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition

This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist looking to further advance their career within Adult Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition services at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will need to be flexible and organised, work well within a team and have a 'can do' positive attitude. The Intestinal Rehabilitation Service (IRS) at St George's Hospital is a tertiary-level specialist service dedicated to the assessment and management of patients with severe intestinal failure within southwest London.
The IRS is led by a multi-disciplinary team who provide a comprehensive approach to patients with intestinal failure receiving parenteral and enteral nutrition. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to join this service and work to ensure the continued provision and development of high quality, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to patients with intestinal failure at St. George's and within SW London.
Main duties of the job
- Act as the Principal Pharmacist for Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition Services including independent prescribing, nutrition ward rounds and outpatient clinics.
- Manage and lead the pharmacy Intestinal Rehabilitation team within the organisation and across interface boundaries.
- Work as an expert pharmacist for Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition Services, contributing to advanced decision making within multi-disciplinary teams at St George's Hospital and jointly with our partner Trusts.
- Manage and implement services designed to improve the pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice.
- Identify and support the facilitation of CIPs within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and drug budget management.
- Progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.
- Participate in service development and evaluation, audit, research, risk management and clinical guideline development, both within St. George's and in conjunction with St. Mark's in line with the West London Intestinal Rehabilitation Service.

Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
- Diploma in clinical pharmacy practice or equivalent
- Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Registered independent prescriber
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- MSc in a relevant clinical area
- Formal leadership and management training
- Practice and educational supervisor accreditation
Experience
- Hospital pharmacy experience as a clinical pharmacist in the areas of intestinal failure and nutrition
- DTC applications and formulary management experience
- Experience in implementing and managing change
- Experience in Procedure, policy and guideline writing and implementation
- Experience in delivering training and education
- Experience of identifying and managing risk in a clinical specialty
- Experience of leading, implementing into practice and/or publishing research
- Experience of being a designated prescribing practitioner and/or clinical supervisor
- Experience of using an electronic patient and medicines administration system
Knowledge
- Advanced clinical and professional knowledge of intestinal failure and nutrition
- Knowledge of wider therapeutics and pharmacology with a record of successful application
- Demonstrable knowledge of NHS issues, priorities, policy, procedures and guidelines and ability to implement these locally
- Demonstrable awareness of commitment to Clinical Governance
- Ability to critically analyse and apply research to the clinical setting
- Familiarity with CMM and Cerner computer systems
Skills
- Ability to prioritise and plan work effectively autonomously and for a team including the ability to delegate appropriately
