Job Description:
The Principal Enterprise Network Security Architecture role is responsible for two main aspects of the Enterprise Reference Architecture:
- Enterprise Architecture: Define, maintain and own the network security architecture strategy and roadmap, incorporating Network Segmentation as HSBC segments its network, ensuring alignment to other HSBC technology strategies and providing Design Authority sponsorship for major network security initiatives across the Group. Provide assurance of the Solutions Designs produced and support the Engineering teams in production of Execution plans in executing the Strategies. This will include liaising with developers who work for Global Businesses, selling standardisation as a key to interoperability between the network and the services it supports, and working tightly with the Network Security control owner, who works for the CISO, across an organisational boundary.
- Solutions Architecture: Managing the Solution Architects who write the designs and patterns for Network Security initiatives across the Bank, and working with the Global Businesses to prove the value of those services to the developers who use a secure network.
In this role you will:
- Write documents that show how HSBC will segment its network, host the applications that earn HSBC Net Interest Income and Net Fee Income, deliver authentication and access control to the network layer, provide software defined network security in conjunction with the application developers in the business, to include where that software definition should be bounded to ensure stability and resilience within the network.
- Have a deep understanding of the various platforms that support Network security in the bank.
- Investigate the practices, processes, operating model, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards of peers and hyperscalars to understand where HSBC can learn from them.
- Influence HSBC’s business and technology executives to help them align their initiatives with standardised offerings in Network Security whilst also engaging with them to understand their business requirements, threats and risks.
- Represent the HSBC Cybersecurity Architecture practice at governance forums to drive the adoption of the strategies and associated blueprints, with a view to helping to realise standardisation but not centralisation.
- Measure compliance with the defined Architecture controls and articulate the cost of technical debt.
- Work with the CISO and the Cybersecurity executive team to prepare the annual budget on network security.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Have a high level business understanding of, and the implications of Network Security for HSBC’s three global businesses and supporting functions. Able to translate business needs into appropriate IT (and Cybersecurity) solutions. Strong documentation drive and clerksmanship.
- Broad knowledge of security across other domains including IAM, App Sec, Cyber Threat Management, Infrastructure and Data security.
- Experience with any of the industry Cloud technologies (Amazon Web Service, Azure, Google Cloud) as well as virtualization technologies (VMWare, MVS, Xen, Virtual Box, etc.).
- Knowledge of Big Data platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of key IT domains particularly computing platforms (Windows, UNIX and Linux) and networking technologies including SDN, routing, and enterprise network designs.
- Leading a Network function; writing strategy and plans and driving adoption through a large, complex and geographically dispersed organisation.
- Have a network engineering background and the ability to compare and contrast different solutions to meet a business requirement. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills – desire to solve complex problems at scale.
This role is based in Edinburgh.
