An established industry player is seeking a Principal Design Engineer for a 12-month contract role in Plymouth. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a large-scale infrastructure project within the Nuclear Defence sector. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing mechanical services and a strong understanding of hydraulic calculations and hazard analysis. With mostly remote work and only two days on-site per month, this role provides flexibility while contributing to critical projects. 6-8+ years' experience in designing mechanical services/process systems.
Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably nuclear.

Design mechanical services/process systems for a large-scale infrastructure project.
Check design documentation and manage a team of direct reports.

The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join a leading Nuclear Defence company in Plymouth working on a large-scale infrastructure project.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

6-8+ years' experience of designing a mechanical services / process system.
Experience of working in a highly regulated industry, strong preference to nuclear.
Understanding of hydraulic / pressure calculations.
Understanding of hazard identification and analysis associated with process systems (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP etc)
BEng/BSc in mechanical engineering or similar degree.
Experience checking design documentation.
Line management experience of 3+ direct reports.

Highly Desirable:

SC already
Masters' education
CEng or working towards
