Job Description:

RINA’s Maritime Safety Consulting division is looking for an exceptional Safety Engineering Consultant to join a specialist and growing team, working for Defence clients across all naval platforms including surface ships, carriers, submarines, and unmanned vessels. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and shape RINA’s Safety and/or ISA capability, providing the Royal Navy with world-class safety advisory services.

This role can be based out of our Southampton, Chippenham, or Leatherhead offices, though RINA is a smart/hybrid working organization, so living within commuter distance of the office is not necessarily required. Moderate travel across the UK is required, though. Despite being a permanent position, we will also consider a part-time (PAYE) role: 3-4 days/week.

Responsibilities:

  • You will lead a variety of Maritime Safety Engineering projects to ensure requirements are delivered on time, to budget, and to the required quality;
  • You will manage projects either as an individual or managing a small team;
  • Support with bids, proposals, analysis, and report writing;
  • Promote RINA’s Safety capability to customers, providing expert counsel through face-to-face liaison, relationship building, and presentations;
  • Assist the Safety management team with augmenting safety capability to meet new and emerging market demands;
  • This is not a Health & Safety (HSE) role.

Qualifications & experience:

  • At least ten years’ experience in the application of safety engineering management solutions in high hazard environments;
  • Knowledge of UK MOD (Defence) maritime/naval platforms;
  • Experience in conducting Hazard & Safety Risk Analysis or Independent Safety Assurance (ISA) projects and have developed safety cases;
  • Experience in the use and application of Safety Engineering tools such as Reliability Workbench, ASCE, BowTie, ETA, or FTA;
  • Some working knowledge of the following Defence Standard 00-56 and regulations including DSA02-DMR;
  • An understanding of how UK MOD frameworks (i.e., Aurora) operate;
  • Some working knowledge of ASEMS, POSMS, and POEMS processes;
  • You will have an engineering background;
  • Ideally, you will have UK Security Clearance, or you must be a British citizen and be prepared to go through vetting.
