Job description

The Pantheon Tax team currently comprises six members – two Co-Head of Tax, a Vice President, two Senior Associates, and an Associate. The Co-Heads of Tax are responsible for all tax aspects of the Pantheon corporate group and the Pantheon products (i.e. investment funds) respectively. The team is based in London and is a sub-set of the Pantheon Finance and Tax team. Pantheon Tax reports to the Chief Financial Offer, and in addition to Pantheon Finance, also works closely with other Pantheon internal teams, including the Legal & Compliance, Human Resources, Operations, Investments and Investor Relations teams.

Pantheon Tax aims to deliver a broad service to the Pantheon business ranging from corporate tax, partnership tax, and employment-related taxes in key jurisdictions, in particular UK and US, as well as investment and funds tax. Extensive use is made of external tax advisors to leverage their resources and experience. The position is required as a maternity leave cover for the Co-Head of Tax who oversees the Pantheon corporate group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Corporate tax compliance – oversees the completion and submission of accurate tax returns and related tax payments (e.g. corporate tax, partnership tax, vat added tax, and other relevant local taxes) for the relevant regions (including UK, US (Federal, State and Local), Singapore, Ireland, Korea, Japan, Luxembourg, and Switzerland), collaborating with external service providers to ensure their accurate and timely submission. Ensure local tax legislation is complied with, and processes are improved and updated as required.
  • Group and local GAAP reporting – oversees the Pantheon Group tax provision for quarter-end reporting and forecasting purposes, including current and deferred tax provisioning, preparation of tax accounts reconciliations. Responsible for tax accounting for the local GAAP statutory accounts, including current and deferred taxes and any prior year adjustments.
  • Project work – responsible for corporate tax projects through to its implementation (e.g. Pillar 2 compliance, transfer pricing, group tax strategy, tax automation projects, improving reporting / compliance processes, integration of new group entities into existing Pantheon tax processes)
  • Risk management – responsible to managing the tax risks of the Pantheon group and its stakeholders (i.e. Pantheon operating partners)
  • Business process improvement: evaluate business processes and identify areas where changes can be made to limit tax liabilities and improve efficiency. Implement process improvements and monitor their effectiveness in achieving optimal tax outcomes.
  • Strategy and planning – responsible for identifying tax risks and opportunities related to ongoing, routine, and proposed business activities and ensure tax compliance in their subsequent implementation
  • People management – provides leadership and direction to members of the Tax team and wider Finance team in fostering a high-performance culture; drives accountability for the performance and results of direct reports, responsible for hiring decisions and activities (including job definition, interviewing, selection and onboarding), responsible for employee decisions and activities (i.e. performance appraisals, performance counselling, coaching and career development, and ensures workload is balanced across the team)
  • Tax liaison – develops and maintains relationships with business partners (internal and external to Pantheon). Manage the relationships to ensure alignment with organisational tax strategy and compliance requirements
  • Research and training – proactively monitors, assesses, and communicates to key stakeholders changes in global tax legislation that may impact the company’s operations

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • ACA/CTA qualified (or equivalent) with demonstrable experience in accounting and direct and indirect tax reporting and compliance, in an international tax function of a multinational organisation
  • Demonstrated technical strength and knowledge related to tax accounting, reporting and compliance
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management in an organisation
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, time management and project management skills with attention to detail and ability to interpret complex tax regulations
  • Ability to work under pressure and complete tasks within time constraints and deadlines
  • Strong organisational skills showing attention to detail and willing to show flexibility
  • Professionalism, dependability, integrity and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude are essential
  • Experience with accounting reporting systems, Microsoft Office, excellent ability with Microsoft Excel
