Job description

Principal/Associate Water Environment Consultant sought, Bristol / Cheltenham. BMR are actively looking for an experienced Principal or Associate Water Environment Consultant to join an expanding team, based in either Bristol or Cheltenham.


Day to day:

  • As a key member of the Water Environment team, you will lead and manage the delivery of hydraulic modelling projects, focusing on nature-based solutions, Flood Risk Assessments, and drainage design. Our clients' projects are diverse, ranging from land promotion and inner-city regeneration to climate change resilience and residential development. You'll also support local authorities in implementing natural flood management techniques. This role involves close collaboration with various disciplines to deliver integrated designs that maximize value for their clients. You will work alongside the national discipline Director, with significant opportunities for career advancement as they continue to grow.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality projects, including Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Evacuation Management Plans, Environmental Impact Assessment Chapters, and Drainage Strategies.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on technical work.
  • Provide leadership and management for a team of consultants.
  • Identify and develop growth opportunities in new sectors and locations.
  • Engage with stakeholders, project team members, and clients.
  • Generate project inquiries and maintain profitability.
  • Conduct site visits as required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience as a Senior, Principal, or Associate Water Environment Consultant in the UK.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commercial awareness to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficiency in UK hydrological methodologies and flood risk management policies.
  • Experience with software such as HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller-TUFLOW, Infoworks-ICM, ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior team members.
  • A full UK driving license.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent, with Chartered status (desirable).
