Job Title: Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

If so, GSL Education are looking for a caring Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a specialist primary school in Chesterfield.

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will be an essential part of the learning journey for children with additional needs. Collaborating with teachers, SEN professionals, and therapists, you will provide tailored support to help students develop academically, socially, and emotionally in a structured and inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities of Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):

  1. One-to-one and small group support, helping students engage with their learning and develop essential skills.
  2. Implementing personalised learning plans, adapting teaching materials to meet each child's unique requirements.
  3. Encouraging social and emotional development, using strategies to promote confidence, resilience, and independence.
  4. Providing sensory and behavioural support, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  5. Assisting with speech and language interventions, working alongside therapists to support children's communication needs.
  6. Helping with structured routines, ensuring a safe, consistent, and engaging learning experience.
  7. Supporting personal care needs, including toileting and mobility assistance when required.
  8. Monitoring progress and providing feedback, contributing to individual education plans (IEPs) and liaising with SEN professionals.

Requirements of Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
  1. Be available full-time, with a commitment to consistency and reliability.
  2. Have previous experience working with children with SEN in a primary school setting.
  3. A valid driver's license is required.
  4. Hold a relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or Special Educational Needs Support (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent).
  5. Have experience with alternative communication methods, such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices (desirable).
  6. Be familiar with positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  7. Possess a patient, empathetic and proactive approach to working with children.
  8. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
