University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS - Salisbury) for a permanent full-time pre-registration / trainee Clinical Scientist to join our Rare Disease genomics section.
We are inviting applications from hard-working, self-motivated and flexible individuals, with previous experience in a diagnostic Genomics laboratory who wish to work towards HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist. This will require the compilation of a portfolio of evidence for submission via either the ACS Route 2 or the AHCS equivalence route.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the diagnostic service and will be expected to utilise these opportunities and experience to compile evidence for portfolio submission. Any additional training required to achieve the level of portfolio submission will be directed by service requirements and overseen by the Training Officer and appropriate senior staff. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of diagnostic laboratory genetics and the ability to critically analyse and interpret scientific data and compile comprehensive genomic reports. In addition, excellent communication skills are essential to ensure effective multi-disciplinary team-working and the communication of complex information to service users. A post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline would be advantageous as HCPC registration requires at least a Master's level of knowledge in the discipline.
Main Duties Additional:
The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, now WGLS (Salisbury) and Molecular Pathology based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The WGLS is also a member of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub.
What you'll do: You will join our Rare and Inherited Disease team who are committed to patient-centered service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation and reporting of genomic test results.
Rare and Inherited Disease covers a wide range of different tests and technologies and you will have the opportunity to be involved, under supervision, in service delivery in multiple areas of the department. Attention to detail is essential to ensure that patient results are delivered in a safe and effective way. You will be involved in liaising with other healthcare professionals to maintain a high-quality patient-centred service. A flexible and co-operative approach to work and learning is essential and you will be expected to use your own initiative to maximise opportunities for meeting the standards and competencies required for HCPC registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
