Job description

Pre-Production Manager Required in Stevenage

GVR Solutions are currently working with a reputable and longstanding joinery contractor based in Stevenage. This particular client specializes in the design, production, and installation of joinery products across the Commercial, Residential, Leisure, and Education sectors.

The role requires the individual to be a coordinator between the client and our design/production teams, to procure and organize the project information, pursue the information with vigor to ensure the timely receipt, while ensuring an exceptional level of professionalism.

The individual will be a key figure in the external face of the business, so attitude to the role and our clients must be to the highest level.

Responsibilities of the Pre-Production Manager:

  • Receive from the Estimator all information pertaining to the project, understand the nature of the works in detail, and gain an understanding of the time frames for the project.
  • Discuss with the team all outstanding information and pursue these with the clients.
  • Organize and attend design meetings (where appropriate) with the client's team.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the project post-meeting.
  • Set time frames with the client for all outstanding information and pursue in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with the client if the information is not forthcoming, and coordinate the revision of delivery times following any delays caused by this lack of information flow.
  • Consult with Production and Operations when revising timeframes.
  • Agree and understand design timeframes with our Design Manager, monitor progress throughout this process, record and communicate delays, changes, and issues causing us to fall behind schedule.
  • Pursue ongoing design issues on behalf of all within the Design department to ensure timely delivery of information, and record where delays occur.
  • Schedule all requirements for specialist finishes or items for each project.
  • Send out initial inquiries from suppliers for the same.
  • Establish lead times for all said materials.
  • Ensure this information is shared with all relevant persons, including clients where appropriate.
  • Coordinate and update this information with design and production to ensure relevance against any changes.
  • Organize samples for the project.
  • Pre-production and post-production project management.

The Pre-Production Manager must have/be:

  • A higher level of understanding of the Microsoft Office package, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • A good level of design experience; AutoCAD would be a clear advantage for the role.
  • Outstanding levels of communication skills.
  • Expansive level of joinery production experience.
  • A good level of experience in other related production, i.e., metal fabrication, stone, glass, and the like.
  • A logical and systematic approach to the organization of workload, understanding clear priorities for themselves and the business.
  • The ability to form close beneficial working relationships with both internal and external customers at many levels of seniority.
  • Previous experience in using Material Requirement Planning (MRP) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) would be beneficial.
  • A good range of contacts across the joinery industry from subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and miscellaneous contacts.
