Purpose of Role

To manage adherence to the pre-analytical lab rota, lead the Laboratory Technicians team, and support the Laboratory manager with daily operational responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Overseeing day-to-day performance of sample booking in and preparation processes to meet and where possible exceed sample TATs and laboratory KPIs.
  2. Managing laboratory QDIP board to ensure pre-analytical processes are monitored and managed effectively.
  3. Working with Laboratory Manager to establish and implement laboratory rota.
  4. Setting daily team targets and reporting to Laboratory Manager on progress/performance.
  5. Acting as a first point for Laboratory Technicians.
  6. Conducting weekly performance review meetings and regular One2Ones with Laboratory Technicians.
  7. Dealing with problematic samples and kits.
  8. Leading induction of Laboratory Technicians.
  9. Maintaining high productivity and motivation of all laboratory staff.
  10. Performing risk assessments and internal audits as required.
  11. Ensure the maintenance of laboratory records, including but not limited to, problem samples record, nonconformance and CAPAs within area of expertise.
  12. Performing training/training the trainer/CACs in area of expertise.
  13. Driving continuous improvement in area of expertise.
  14. Maintain own competency in all technical areas of the laboratory.
  15. Raising concerns in a timely manner to facilitate CAPAs those relating to sample booking in, preparation, safety and KPIs.
  16. Establish and adopt best practices for all activities within their remit.
  17. Reporting any non-conformances or accidents to a member of management.
  18. Ensuring constant compliance with the Quality System and ISO 15189 accreditation.
  19. Operates in conformance with the requirements of the management system and quality manual.
  20. Adheres to the requirements of the confidentiality disclosure agreement and policy.
  21. Handling and correct disposal of confidential and hazardous waste streams.
  22. Performing and recording stock checks.
  23. Booking in and preparation of laboratory samples (urine, swab, and blood).
  24. General laboratory duties and housekeeping.
