Originally founded in 1823, Seashell Trust is a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential homes, outreach, and health & family services. Based on one site, we provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment, communication disorders and autism. We are proud to have dedicated teams of healthcare professionals based on site to support the children and young people in our school, college and residential settings with their individual ECHPs, and are excited to be recruiting a Practising Speech and Language Therapist to work within our friendly and supportive CQC registered multi-disciplinary health team.

Main duties of the job

To work with individuals, families, education staff, carers, communities and other agencies to undertake comprehensive assessments of the speech, language and communication needs of all new applicants to Seashell Trust.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will work with individuals, families, education staff, carers, communities and other agencies to undertake comprehensive assessments of the speech, language and communication needs of all new applicants to Seashell. They will formulate and deliver individual treatment programmes using evidence-based practice across a range of treatment options, working with teaching staff to improve communications for the children and young people in the classroom. The ability to continually evaluate progress and alter treatment programmes is also required to ensure our students have the ability, tools and resources to express themselves in class. If the successful applicant is dysphagia trained, there will also be the opportunity to assess students' eating and drinking ability again to ensure relevant treatment programmes are implemented to improve these skills. To be able to do this successfully at Seashell, you will need to have a good understanding of the needs of people with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism spectrum conditions, MSI, profound and multiple intellectual disabilities and complex physical disabilities. Person Specification

Experience

• Relevant experience as a Speech and Language Therapist working with children and young adults with complex needs, including people who are non-verbal
• Previous line management experience of qualified staff, assistants and SALT students
• Previous clinical supervision experience to assistant or newly qualified SALTs
• Ability to deliver, implement and evaluate therapy programmes without supervision as a named practitioner
• Resilient nature and the ability to problem solve
• Committed to further professional development to build on that already evidenced in your career to date
• Experience of working with people with dysphagia

Qualifications

• Registration to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC
• Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
• Registered Member of the College of Speech and Language Therapists (Cert M. RCSLT)
• Additional training certificate in Elklan or other early years intervention programme is also desirable
• A recognised dysphagia qualification is also highly preferred

£21,792 to £24,213 a year. Part time, 22.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
