Job description

We have an opportunity for an additional Practice Nurse to join our team at Martlesham Heath Surgery.

A great opportunity to work with an innovative and expanding surgery alongside current members of staff.

We are looking to employ a Practice Nurse, ideally with Primary Care / GP Experience to join our small friendly clinical team. For our team, the successful candidate would have a wealth of knowledge and ideally bring a minimum of 2-3 years experience with them.

Our Clinical team is built on Health Care Assistants, Practice Nurses, Advanced Care Practitioners, Paramedics and GPs who are assisted by our Reception and Administration staff. This role will be enhancing the current Nursing Team, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective services to the whole practice population. As a member of the clinical nursing team, the post holder is responsible for their own practice, whilst being accountable to the senior trained nurse on duty.

We currently utilise Anima, a clinical system to allow online contact with our patients. Some, but not all, requests for Clinical care are received via this system.

With additional overtime, sickness and annual leave cover also available. Full discussion of availability / working hours will be had at interview.

Main duties of the job

You will deliver care within the boundaries of your role and experience, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.

Regular Practice Nurse duties will be undertaken while working closely with the established Clinical Team.

Martlesham Heath Surgery uses SystmOne clinical system. We are pleased to announce our connection with the new Wolsey PCN, this new collaboration is between a select number of GP practices within the local area.

Job responsibilities

You will be working with our clinical teams to deliver the best primary care healthcare service to our patients.

Both associated Nurse duties and clinical administrative work will be part of your normal day.

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Completion of annual reviews; such as hypertension, CHD, Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease, AF and a variety of other Primary Care / QOF required reviews
  • Cervical Screening, Family Planning and Contraception Advice
  • New patient health checks and other health screening
  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimen
  • Routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Blood tests and phlebotomy
  • Vaccinations and Injections
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as and when required.
  • Patient education and promotion of health and well-being, promoting NHS campaigns if needed
  • Gathering lifestyle data from patients to ensure accurate record keeping along with educating or signposting to external sources to promote health and well-being
  • Infection control and equipment management
  • Vaccination management and clinical stock control may be required

Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
  • Assist with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  • Assist with seasonal and other specific projects as requested
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required
Person Specification
Experience
  • Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of working autonomously
  • Experience of infection prevention and control measures
  • Clinical knowledge in the following:
  • Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • New patient medicals
  • Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel)
  • Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly
  • Chronic disease management awareness for: Diabetes, Hypertension, CHD, Asthma, Spirometry
  • Understand the importance of evidence-based practice
  • Understand the requirement for PGDs and associated policy
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs
  • Chaperone procedure
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
