Job description

As a Practice Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering primary care services to our diverse patient population. You will work autonomously while being fully supported by a well-established team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Chronic disease management, particularly respiratory
  • Childhood and adult immunisations
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Health promotion and patient education
  • Cervical cytology screening

We value flexibility, and whilst we're looking for 20-25 hours per week, we ask for some adaptability to allow for training, holiday cover, and occasional other colleague absences.

Main duties of the job

Provide general and specific health assessment and screening to the practice population, with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

Advise patients on general health and minor ailments with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.

Implement a systematic approach to care, to include efficient and accurate record keeping for the benefit and safety of patients/clients, continuity of care and professional security.

Assist with the development of work practices within agreed policies to provide the optimum standards of care.

We are part of Suffolk Primary Care, a group of seven GP practices across Suffolk, offering extensive support and networking opportunities.

Job responsibilities

To provide nursing services to patients on the practice list, including assessment, advice within the professional competence of the post holder, screening and treatment. Extra training will be provided for new duties undertaken and required. The post holder will work in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct. Providing care directly to patients without referral via another senior nurse or doctor. To undertake general nursing duties within the nursing team, including:

  • Cervical cytology screening
  • Chronic disease management particularly respiratory
  • Childhood and adult immunisations
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Contraception advice and pill checks
  • Diabetes with Warwick diploma or similar
  • Immunisations and Baby Immunisations
  • Health promotion and patient education
