Power System Engineer £65k - £75k Depending on experience Full Time On Site - Wokingham Various Shifts Covering 24/7 operation of business
The Opportunity
Part of a team directing the configuration of the National Electricity Transmission System whilst ensuring real time secure and economic system operation (in line with GB SQSS) is maintained at all times in an allocated geographic area (Scotland-North, Scotland-South, Eng&Wales-North or Eng&Wales-South) in conjunction with our customers.
Management of faults and events Key Accountabilities
Ensure system security models accurately reflect reality such that system security can be maintained.
In line with STCPs, plan and co-ordinate system access to enable outages and maintenance, whilst minimising constraint costs.
Ensure post fault actions are implemented to maintain security.
In line with STCPs, direct network reconfiguration to maintain system security.
Coordinate the system impact of commissioning, decommissioning and testing of plant.
Direct and coordinate voltage control actions to maintain system security.
Select commercial I/T schemes as required to maintain system security.
Provide fault restoration management, including ensuring that actions are coordinated with external TOs and Users.
Issue Demand Control Instructions to TOs under emergency conditions.
Maintain a quality control audit on network security and for raising iEMS display change requests.
Your Technical Skills
Excellent knowledge and experience of transmission network operation.
Excellent understanding of the outage planning process and TO requirements.
Detailed knowledge and experience of Power System operation.
Experience of operating the power system to GBSQSS.
Decision making experience with the capability to work within tight timescales and ability to make accurate assessments of multiple interdependent operational activities whilst maintaining high performance.
Excellent understanding of power system operation and power system analysis techniques (OLTA/ PNA).
Thorough understanding of operations and the electricity industry structure.
Excellent understanding of transmission system equipment.
Detailed understanding of transmission system issues and business procedure.
Sound understanding of legislation and policies/procedures relating to system operation.
Excellent communication skills being capable of listening and assimilating information across a wide spectrum of sources and to concisely relay to relevant stakeholders.
Logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
Able to deliver in a fast paced, high pressure work environment as part of a real time team.
Good understanding of the needs of our customers and stakeholders.
