Job description

About the role

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK. The electricity that our network provides gets the nation to work, powers schools and brings energy to life. Our network connects the nation, so it’s essential that it’s continually evolving, advancing, and improving. In NGET we are passionate about both operating safely and providing highly reliable quality of supply for our customers.

As Power Quality and Dynamic Performance Manager you’ll lead a team of Power System Engineers ensuring an efficient and effective management of power quality and dynamic performance issues on NGET’s transmission network. You’ll lead on the preparation and analysis of specialist power system studies necessary for demonstrating network (and customer) compliance.

Utilising the team’s specialist knowledge, you’ll anticipate the technical Power System considerations, challenges and required solutions for the NGET network (and the whole system). You’ll consider the introduction of new technology, market initiatives and changes, design policy and solutions and new customer types which will affect network planning time horizons.

You’ll proactively communicate, mitigate, manage and/or resolve challenges, (both within National Grid and with other industry experts) ahead of significant Transmission Network impact.

In addition, you’ll represent NGET across the industry in all areas related to power quality and dynamic system performance.

This role is based out of our offices in Warwick and can be combined with hybrid working from home.

What you'll need

We’re looking for someone who has experience of managing a team of power system engineers, with an in-depth understanding of power systems, power system analysis, and a good understanding of power quality and dynamic performance issues.

With the ability to identify where future network challenges are not accommodated, you’ll have experience of setting and controlling clear scopes of technical work that lead to clearly defined strategic & business outcomes.

You’ll ideally have a good understanding of National Grid’s price control processes and relevant funding mechanisms and be able to drive strategies and approaches that lead to performance against targets.

With experience of leading professional teams and technical experts, you’ll have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, both internally and externally and be able to present detailed technical information in a way understandable to non-technical audiences. In addition, you’ll have experience of working with external regulatory bodies, relevant industry technical groups and customers.

What's in it for you?

Salary range - £67,000 - £85,000 depending on skills and experience

  • Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave - so long as it’s relevant to your role.
  • Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
