Postdoctoral Research Scientist

CRUK Scotland Institute
Glasgow
GBP 30,000 - 50,000
Job description

Prof Martin Bushell

Understanding how transcription initiation determines mRNA fate

About us

The CRUK Scotland Institute where the lab is based is a world leading cancer research institute, situated in the vibrant city of Glasgow in Scotland and hosting approximately 60 postdoctoral researcher scientists at any one time. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis.

Project outline

This position is supported by a Wellcome Trust Discovery Award and will focus on understanding how transcription initiation determines mRNA fate. This is a collaborative grant between Prof. Ferenc Mueller (University of Birmingham) and Prof. Martin Bushell (CRUK Scotland Institute) bringing together the fields of transcription and translational control to understand how these fundamental control mechanisms work together. As part of a large collaborative programme, you will use cutting-edge in vivo and in vitro models to develop our understanding of how cancer cell plasticity is controlled by these critical mechanisms.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, be ambitious and be driven by scientific curiosity. Existing skills with regard to translation and transcriptional control, cancer/molecular biology are desired and experience of ribosome profiling and bioinformatics analysis would be an advantage but is not essential.

To find out more about this unique opportunity to establish advanced skills and expertise in this exciting field please contact Martin Bushell (martin.bushell@glasgow.ac.uk) for more details.
