Purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to maximise revenue and gross margin for our postproduction business. BBC Studioworks operates in an increasingly competitive market. Some producers will approach us and ask to use the post facilities, some may not even know we exist, and many will need to be reminded of our offering. This role ensures that we are at the front of all producers’ minds, are liked and trusted, and ultimately our facilities are achieving high levels of utilisation and high yields. The Post Production Business Development Manager will have responsibility for delivering a substantial proportion of annual revenue across postproduction. They will be responsible for maintaining an excellent rapport with clients, capturing new projects as well as retaining existing business. The post holder will need strong negotiation skills and the ability to achieve the highest volumes of bookings. The role must operate with honesty and integrity to build trust and long-term relationships. Our aim is to create deeper relationships with our current partners – and to establish new relationships – through our excellent customer service and delivery. The role is solution-oriented and finds creative ways to meet customers’ needs. A key element of the role is a close working relationship between operational and commercial teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • To support maximum utilisation and yield for the BBC Studioworks Postproduction business (and associated services), such that we exceed annual commercial targets.
  • Proactively engage with current and new clients to grow our customer base across post production.
  • To lead a commercial negotiation from quoting through to completion of contract agreement.
  • Manage front line sales enquires, owning customer relationships, engendering loyalty whilst ensuring all opportunities are acted upon in a timely manner.
  • To work closely and collaboratively with commercial and operations team, creating a mutual trust ensuring seamless customer experience as a project crosses from one part of the team to another and supporting the delivery teams in resolving any potential conflicts in a timely and conclusive manner.
  • Work within the commercial team helping to shape new services whilst identifying opportunities to secure volume deals and joint studios and post-production contracts.
  • Help develop new pricing strategies, such that we maximise our yield and drive revenue growth.
  • To support the full use of the company’s reporting and billing system (Mediapulse), such that the quality of and access to information, reporting, billing, etc are strong.
  • Work with the wider Studioworks team to improve our offering and enhance client experience where appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required

  • Knowledge and understanding of the TV sector within studio production and the broadcast facilities market in particular.
  • Proven experience in a similar role in a production facility, or media company.
  • A thorough understanding of the production process and workflows.
  • Exceptionally customer focused, with a proven track record in client management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to create, build, and sustain excellent relationships with clients.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and winning work.
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills and demonstrated experience in managing budgets.
  • Good understanding of Excel and the ability to navigate in house systems.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and objectively assess different commercial opportunities.
  • A team player with proven ability to build strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect with a range of different internal teams (Operations, Finance, Legal, etc).
  • A creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of motivation.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
