Overview

The principal responsibility of the Portfolio Manager role is to support the Lending Manager in the ongoing management of the active loan book, ensuring that the portfolio of accounts is managed diligently and proactively and that they are always fully compliant with Credit and Risk policies and procedures.

The individual must be able to manage a busy workload, have strong portfolio and client management skills, and can work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake due diligence on newly approved loan facilities ensuring that all lending requirements are met, and internal controls and procedures are adhered to.
  • Administer the Lending Manager's loan portfolio ensuring that payments are made, and receipts processed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain customer account records in the Lending System in order that the integrity of the Bank's accounting records and data is maintained, consulting with the Finance and Operation teams as appropriate.
  • Prepare Facility, Amendment, and Renewal Letters.
  • Attend meetings (internal and external) with the Lending Manager taking notes, preparing minutes, and producing follow-up papers and correspondence.
  • Assist the Lending Manager in the preparation of Credit Committee papers.
  • Instruct the bank's professional advisors (solicitors, valuers, and monitoring surveyors). Thereafter ensure that their reports are received promptly and address all relevant issues, as set out in the formal instructions, and are generally of a quality which meets the bank's requirements.
  • Assess, in conjunction with the Lending Manager, valuation and quantity surveyors' reports to ensure that the quality of the security and viability of a project (where appropriate) meets the bank's requirements.
  • Prepare payments for authorisation, either the completion of new facilities or stage draws, ensuring that the approved lending parameters and any special requirements have been met.
  • Working in conjunction with the Lending Manager's direct reports.
  • Attend Credit Committee in conjunction with the Lending Manager to seek approval for new loan facilities, renewals, and amendments to the portfolio.
  • Monitor the Lending Manager's portfolio and keep loan renewals up to date.
  • Take new enquiries from potential clients and brokers.
  • Proactively manage client queries and ensure a high level of customer service is delivered at all times.
  • As and when required provide additional support to Directors and/or Senior team members within the business.
  • Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required.

  • Strong demonstrable experience of customer relationship management.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload, work under pressure when necessary.
  • Self-motivated and able to demonstrate excellent time management.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional manner.
  • Able to work within a small professional team and adaptable to the changing requirements/priorities of both the Bank and clients.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, self-develop and work within a structured, busy environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and follow all relevant compliance considerations, including the regulatory environment and appropriate processes, procedures and their implications.
