Job Summary

  • In collaboration with the business counterparts, develop, implement and maintain credit risk strategies to optimally manage the performance of the portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce loss, enhance revenue by building new rules & strategies, collection strategies, cross sell.
  • Use of statistical tools and techniques such as – forecasting, segmentation, predictive analytics etc.
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with governance, risk policies, procedures and compliance policies.
  • Design, implement and maintain generic strategies for appropriate remedial action on poorly performing accounts in the portfolio.
  • Actively manage the performance of the portfolio(s) within agreed risk appetite.
  • Assist with profitability analysis and stress testing of returns for all new products proposals.
  • Assist with completion of post implementation review for new product approvals.
  • Participate in forecasting and provide analysis required to make informed decisions.
  • Ensure Group and Regulatory reporting deadlines are adhered to.
  • Responsible for developing collection and campaign strategies by using data analysis and predictive modelling techniques.
  • Understand Collections operational environments to implement strategies that are relevant to capability.
  • Participate in initiatives to manage portfolio delinquency and improve country risk profile.
  • Will be required to submit regular reports to the Head of Retail Credit Risk in line with the laid down reporting framework.
  • Contribute to in-country Operational Risk Budgeting and cost management.
  • Support operations to identify additional capabilities and channels to enhance customer experience while increasing collections.

Job Description

Accountability: Relations and Stakeholder Management 30%

  • Liaise with the relevant risk management stakeholders in order to identify and manage the objectives of collection strategies to drive risk management.
  • Attend and be the main representative of ABS Retail Credit in key forums discussing portfolio management KRIs both locally and regionally inclusive of (Portfolio Quality Review, Impairments Committees, Rate Update Review Committee etc.)
  • Liaise with the relevant collection operations stakeholders to manage strategy execution and success.
  • Liaise with the relevant compliance and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence legislation and policies.
  • Manage and set expectations for the outsource collections model.
  • Manage strategy sign-off process to ensure that all stakeholders are informed of proposed strategy changes and benefit or impact of these changes to the business.
  • Liaise with the collections team to ensure that the strategy is correctly implemented and that the timelines are within acceptable standards.

Accountability: Strategy split 20%

  • Ensure consistent and timely delivery of analytics support to minimise losses and maximise profits through Trend Analysis, Impairment Analysis, Account management analysis, Profitability analysis, Stress testing, Fraud analytics, Collections strategies and loss reduction strategies.
  • Develop data driven collection strategies within the Retail Collections and Recoveries team.
  • Develop detailed strategies that address the entire collection life-cycle.
  • Develop several alternative campaign strategies based on an analysis of the data and seasonal/point in time scenarios that will affect portfolio performance.

Accountability: Data 30%

  • Responsible for developing monitoring and tracking management information (MI) of strategies and developing reports to highlight performance of strategies tied back to expectations (i.e. impairments).
  • Consolidate the data in a logical manner such that it is analytically ready for use in analytical systems.
  • Identify any data anomalies or trends and investigate possible causes.
  • Identify external data sources that can enhance internal performance view and support strategies.
  • Produce detailed daily and monthly reports that will track strategies against agreed Risk measurement performance metrics (performance, success and industry).
  • Participate in defining operational metrics to measure efficiency to defined Collection strategies.
  • Present any key findings or analysis to in-country as well as regional stakeholders and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Identify new collection opportunities to enhance collection strategies i.e. payment capability, reminders, engagement, channels.
  • Seek better ways of reporting and changing collection strategies.
  • Drive implementation of strategies using decision capability.
  • Have a good understanding of the collections environment where strategies will be executed.

Accountability: Risk and Control Objective 10%

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

Preferred Education

  • Degree or equivalent business experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Sound and practical experience of bank systems and operational processes.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar role would be an added advantage.
  • Deep knowledge in Advanced Excel and databases.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Bank’s data warehouse and management systems e.g. BIW, EMDW, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in the scripting or capable of understanding the data extraction language of the banks system.
  • A good knowledge of the bank’s products and service standards.
  • A good knowledge of the bank’s loan processing, booking and management systems.
  • Good knowledge of the bank’s Consumer Lending framework, on-boarding criteria and lending rules.
  • Good awareness of the bank’s Retail lending policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of ARO Retail Risk Management strategies and processes.
  • Experience within a central Risk Management Department.
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Credit Risk systems and Lending strategies.
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Collection & Recovery processes, systems and strategies.
  • Good problem shooting/investigation and report writing skills.
  • Good understanding of provisions and impairment accounting rules and regulation.
