Job description

The Facilities Directorate at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is undergoing significant changes and with the forthcoming retirement of the current postholder we are looking to recruit a Portering and Transport Manager to help drive the Facilities agenda.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the Portering and Transport functions across our Acute and Community locations and monitoring service provisions, service level agreements, operating procedures, audit assessment and budget management.

The role will require key leadership skills to implement changes across Portering including the implementation of automated job requests as part of the Trust’s new EPR system as well as helping implement emerging strategies around Pathology transport systems throughout South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

Whilst the base for the role is at the Northern General Hospital cross site working and leadership is a key requirement of the role and the post is an important part of the senior management team within the Facilities function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure each area of responsibility operates smoothly and efficiently, including the systems and IT support available to aid provision of services.
  • Ensure an adequate number of hours are available to meet the needs of the service and there are sufficient staffing levels provided to cover all service requirements. Oversee the compilation of duty rotas and work schedules.
  • Display an open leadership style that encourages and motivates staff to provide excellent services to the Trust.
  • Manage and develop staff, supervisors and managers to encourage maximum involvement in the delivery of services to optimise their performance.
