Job description

Good Growth

Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayors environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work. The Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour London Unit also sits within the Good Growth Directorate.

About The Team

The role is based within the Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour London Unit at the GLA. The Unit delivers the Mayors Culture Strategy for London, aiming to provide Londoners with access to culture on their doorsteps.

We do this through a wide range of programmes that support the arts and creative industries to grow and be accessible to all, and the capital to become the number one destination for 24-hour culture and entertainment. Projects include the Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, the Creative Economy Growth programme, Creative Enterprise Zones, the East Bank culture and education quarter, the Fourth Plinth contemporary art commission series, London Borough of Culture and the Night Time Enterprise Zones.

London Borough of Culture was launched in 2017. Its aim is to place culture at the heart of communities, underpinned by residents engagement, inspiring new and diverse talent, and drawing visitors from across the city and beyond. Programmes focus on young people, community and civic engagement, health and wellbeing, and jobs and skills. Waltham Forest held the title in 2019, and Brent in 2020. Lewisham delivered its programme in 2022 and Croydon in 2023.

In March 2024, the Mayor announced the title awards for Wandsworth 2025 and Haringey 2027, delivering ambitious creative and community-led programmes in each borough, using arts, culture & heritage activities to transform peoples lives; and three Cultural Impact Awards to Barnet, Greenwich and Merton, delivering high-quality creative interventions that celebrate culture and communities, and encourage participation and positive change.

Liberty, the Mayors festival celebrating D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists, is now embedded as part of the overall LBOC programme, to support the development of these artists and create further opportunities to bring Liberty to the heart of local communities. There is a Liberty Advisory Group of ten Members with lived experience of disability and neurodiversity that guides the vision for the festival.
