Overview
An intergovernmental organisation that supports member states to achieve shared goals in development, democracy and peace, is looking to recruit a Policy and Political Advisor to support the substantive and administrative duties of the Director's Office.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the substantive and administrative functions of the Assistant Secretary General (ASG), including conducting research, coordinating information from internal and external sources, and contributing to papers, briefing documents, charts, tables, and presentations.
  • Advise the ASG on staff performance, administrative systems, and financial oversight to ensure that the division meets its outputs, goals, and targets.
  • Provide timely briefing materials and strategic advice to the ASG in preparation for meetings.
  • Manage the oversight and coordination of outputs, functions, and schedules for sectional, cross-sectional, and interdivisional projects and programmes.
  • Conduct substantive reviews of Project Design Documents (PDDs) and provide recommendations to the ASG for approval.
  • Facilitate follow-up actions, cooperation, and communication between senior stakeholders to ensure efficient, relevant, and timely delivery of work.
  • Oversee and support the research and publishing functions of the division.
  • Utilise strong communication skills to enhance collaboration on intersectional and interdisciplinary projects and programmes.
  • Organise, coordinate, and execute high-level events.
  • Transmit instructions from the ASG to relevant Heads and staff as required.
  • Perform any other duties as necessary.

Education, Experience and Skills required

  • A Degree in law or political science.
  • Experience working in a policy/political advisory role.
  • Evidence of good writing skills with in-depth analytical capacity.
  • Evidence of ability to carry out in-depth research.
  • High level, valuable and relevant experience in a highly demanding environment.
  • Evidence of publications either books or peer-reviewed journals.
  • Impeccable English writing skills.
  • Lateral thinking, initiative and love for innovation.
