Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a Temporary Police Staff Investigator to provide crucial support within the Criminal Investigation Department. This role requires a qualified PIP Level 1/2 Investigator or equivalent experience, along with a solid understanding of the criminal justice system. You will be responsible for conducting interviews, evaluating evidence, and preparing documentation to aid in criminal investigations. Temporary Police Staff Investigator

NB: Police Vacancy - only for candidates with a minimum of 3 years continuous UK address history. Please note that this vacancy is subject to a strict security vetting procedure.

  2. For office based and hybrid roles, your commute to the place of work must be less than 1 hour.
  3. This is a temporary role, initially 6 months. Please do not apply if you are seeking a permanent position.

Key Requirements:

  1. For PIP1 Roles - Qualified PIP Level 1/2 Investigator or recognised transferrable investigative experience.
  2. Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, application of PACE and Human Rights.
  3. Specialist Policing Skills such as Holmes, Exhibit/ Disclosure training.
  4. Demonstrates the ability to make and review decisions after gathering all available information, assessing risks and considering a range of options.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to deal with potentially difficult and volatile situations in a professional, calm and innovative way.

The purpose of the role is to provide active professional support within the Criminal Investigation Department for the investigation of crime, covering all aspects of the investigative process that do not require formal Police powers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare and conduct interviews with detainees, victims and witnesses according to the Law and Practical Guide to Investigative Interviewing.
  2. Evaluate evidence and information obtained on an ongoing basis.
  3. Take statements as required in accordance with legislation and procedure.
  4. Determine the appropriate course of action in a case and to undertake that action in a thorough and expeditious manner.
  5. Completing relevant documentation in paper and digital format to support the case.
  6. Conduct all necessary investigative work required to bring about a prosecution, except those parts which form core Police Officer powers or powers not designated by the Chief Constable.
  7. Present case files to the Crown Prosecution Service, attend Case Conferences with Crown Prosecutors and Prosecution Counsel in line with Force and National Policy.
