Responsibilities of the Plant Manager role:

  • Ensure that the plant is run and managed in a manner that Safety, HR, Environment, Quality, Production, Engineering and Cost Control goals are met.
  • Develop and successfully execute plans to deliver all Plant KPIs.
  • Plan, organise, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations and allocate resources effectively.
  • Be a driving force in the Safety culture ensuring that all policies and regulations are followed and continuously improved.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach direct reports.
  • Build and maintain a trusting relationship with employees; communicate and regularly feedback on performance expectations.
  • Prepare budgets, RFCs and monitor and explain any plant cost variances.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Degree qualified Mechanical or Industrial Engineer.
  • NVQ level 3 in mechanical / mechatronic engineering.
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing plant leadership role as Plant or Production Manager.
  • Experience in metal packaging, automotive or FMCG industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of business and management principles (i.e. budgeting, cost control).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Previous experience in implementing and using continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Knowledge of food safety and other management systems.
  • A natural leader with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop and motivate people.
  • Hands-on approach, able to roll your sleeves up when required.
  • Strong data and analytical skills.
  • Solid decision-making skills and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • A safety mind-set.
  • Thrives in a continuous improvement culture.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with robust interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to manage change.
