The Plant Manager is responsible for operating, optimising and improving the Anaerobic Digestor and gas to grid operation and wastewater assets at a site in Cumbria. The site includes two large Anaerobic Digestors which produce biogas from Creamery Waste, with the biogas being used for on-site electricity generation and bio-methane to gas grid. In addition, the site contains an Effluent Treatment Plant which treats waste water from the creamery process. This will involve all aspects of the plant – process operations, maintenance and asset care, development projects, resource, risk, cost management and control and overall optimisation. The Plant Manager is expected to drive operational excellence and significantly improve the reliability and efficiency of the Anaerobic Digestor and the Effluent Treatment Plant.
Main Responsibilities:
Co-ordinate and implementation of HSE systems
Line management of a team of operator/maintainers
Visible leadership on HSE issues at all levels both in the client organisation and within AOL
Ownership and effective stewardship of local permitting
Control of Operational Budget
Control of costs on projects - suppliers and subcontractors
Recognition of risks to AOL contract and operation
Analyse operational and processing risks within the context of long term site service contract and manage to minimise
Establish and maintain professional relationships with Customer personnel, AOL teams and sub-contractor staff
Gain recognition by the customer as the key person with respect to AOL activity on site
Build recognition with Customer for high performance plant operations
Ensure team exhibit proactive attitude and approach to maintaining and improving plant performance
Recognise gaps and opportunities in the operation of the plant
Recognise opportunities for AOL at customer site through close working with Process Team
Respond to emergencies
Ensure proper resources are available
Efficient plant operations
Effective and suitable monitoring including quality control of lab work
Involvement and proactive management in/of asset care planning and feeding through maintenance priorities (risk management)
As part of Operational Excellence support the development of plant KPI’s and information to ensure clear easy monitoring of plant performance
Lead / manage incidents in conjunction with Operations / Standby Manager
Highlight and fill in gaps associated with technical documentation and procedures required at plant
Upholding staff welfare
Support the development of training and competence material
Carry out ‘on the job’ training of technicians Support the development of the ‘AOL’ culture of ownership, involvement and accountability for plant operations
Knowledge and Experience:
Food/sludge waste AD experience performing in a leadership role
Waste Water Experience performing in a leadership role
To be able to demonstrate through previous work experience technical and operational knowledge one or more areas
Experience working directly with a Customer including attending, facilitating and contributing to meetings
Leadership experience in the management of a team of operators, skilled technicians and engineers
Project management experience beneficial
PC literacy
Time management skills
Sludge disposal / waste management
Education/Training:
Background in Anaerobic Digestion or Waste Water/Chemistry / Chemical engineering
Certificate/training in Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety system
