Job description

Our client is a Local Authority based in the East Midlands and they require a Planning Policy Officer to join them for a contract role.


You will be required to carry out monitoring functions for the Planning Service and produce reports analysing the results, including monitoring the Local Plan, providing good quality and up-to-date advice on planning policy issues and undertaking research in connection with planning policy.


You will assist in developing policy and other planning and design guidance based upon appropriate evidence, involving stakeholders and the public in policy development, and taking draft policy through formal adoption processes, including preparing for Key Decisions and Examinations in Public as necessary. You will also undertake research to provide a sound and up-to-date evidence base for policy development for both the borough as a whole and for specified places as a key element of place shaping.


Minimum Requirements:

  1. Relevant degree level qualification and ideally professional accreditation.
  2. Demonstrable understanding of UK town planning procedures.
  3. Proven experience in planning policy work, showcasing your ability to navigate complex challenges.
  4. Experience in public participation/engagement, fostering collaborative relationships within the community.
  5. Holding a Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute would be beneficial.

This contract will initially be offered for 13 weeks though it could be extended beyond this. The rate offered will depend on your experience but is expected to be between £40-£45/hr Umbrella. This role is inside IR35.


Our client offers hybrid working arrangements with 1 day a week in the office.
