We reserve the right to close applications to this post prior to the closing date, therefore encourage you to apply for this post as soon as possible.

We are now recruiting for both a Planner and Conservation Officer – Planning Development or a hybrid of the two roles. Whichever role you apply for, you will deal with a full range of activities including pre-application enquiries, applications of all types and scale, and appeals within a District with a diverse range of planning issues.

Responsibilities:

Planner – Development:

  1. To deal with and make recommendations on all planning and related applications under delegated powers.
  2. To deal with and make recommendations on all planning and related applications which are to be dealt with by Committee.

Planner – Conservation:

  1. To deal with all types of heritage or related applications for consideration under delegated powers.
  2. To deal with all types of heritage or related applications which are to be dealt with by Committee.

If the role is a hybrid of the Planner and Conservation Officer, then you will cover both aspects.

Ideally, you will have a few years’ experience of dealing with a wide range of planning applications and/or heritage matters with the ability to engage positively with applicants and/or their agents and negotiate on planning proposals. We are customer-focused and aim to put all people we come into contact with at the centre of what we do.

You will be working with a permanent, professional, committed, and experienced team who are passionate about supporting us to deliver the objectives as outlined in our Community Plan.

Geographically, Newark and Sherwood is the largest District in Nottinghamshire, incorporating the centres of Newark, Southwell, and Ollerton, together with large rural areas. The planning department deals with schemes ranging from large urban extensions (3000 houses and associated infrastructure), employment and retail developments, flood risk issues, schemes for gypsy and traveller provision, and protecting the area’s important heritage.

We’re an ambitious, forward-thinking Council with strong values and a culture of doing our absolute best to serve our customers. We are proud of our organisational culture and receive positive feedback from our employees.

We offer enrolment in the career average local government pension scheme, flexi scheme, hybrid working, a generous annual leave entitlement that increases with service, a whole host of family-friendly benefits, 1 day’s paid volunteering leave, lifestyle benefits platform, free car parking, and £10 a month gym membership at one of our four gyms in the district.
