Morson Talent are delighted to present an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Piping Construction Technical Lead (BNI) to join our client's established team. All work is associated with a major energy infrastructure Project which will help to drive the UK towards its net-zero targets. It's a busy time for the Project as focus moves to the commencement of the bulk installation phase and the engineering delivery of the site scope.

This is a (renewable) contract position - inside IR35.

Job Purpose / Overview

To deliver the engineering required for installation of the MEH piping scope on site through leadership of a team of Engineers from delivery to site of piping/equipment through to handover to commissioning. To provide integration of the site scope within the wider E2E Piping Engineering team.

Contextual Information - Operating Environment:

The current Piping Construction Engineering team size comprises of 9 Engineers, however this will grow to match the workload on site. MEH End to End Engineering team currently comprises circa 120 engineers. Piping Engineering team consists of circa 40 engineers. As this is a front-line site delivery role, there is a necessity to work flexibility under the time pressure of the schedule in order to unblock technical issues to allow continuity of work by the installation teams.

Frameworks and Boundaries

The BNI Piping Technical Lead has counterparts across the other disciplines in MEH engineering, who perform equivalent roles for the other 4 disciplines of MEH. The BNI Piping Technical Lead will have delegation to perform decision making on site within a defined boundary to allow efficient and quick resolution of topics.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Managing the Contract Engineering Lead activities for HK8010 installation contract related to BNI piping (construction activities), in particular:
2. Writing of the technical specifications for erection activities
3. Updating of LDRC (List of Documents Required from the Contractor) and Surveillance Plan for BNI scope
4. Answering Technical Queries
5. Resolving the construction Open Points
6. Coordinating of the answer to Exemption Requests
7. Coordination and reviewing deliverables from the Erection Contractors to support readiness of site erection activities.
8. Reviewing installation specifications from the Responsible Designer (RD).
9. Assistance to HK8010 Contract Engineering Lead (CEL) to update the BNI discipline LAD (List of Applicable Documents) and Works Information.
10. Supporting to HK8010 Contract Engineering Lead (CEL) to manage Early Warnings.
11. To handle specific technical topics and support to project managers to prepare BFPI/CMB/PCR paper, etc.
12. Supporting the construction Project Managers in the establishment of Key Performance indicators with the objective of reporting site progresses for construction activities.
13. Proactive reactivity and technical experience to enable site construction activities to be executed without blocker to delivery, by providing technical support/expertise to close all open points / technical queries raised by the construction contractor.
14. Coordinate interface with Front Office teams in the answers provided for Field Change Requests / Non-Conformances from site.
15. Ensure integration of the needs for activities post-construction (completion team) into the construction sequence (for instance: Hydro pressure test loop definition, Commissioning Test Pack review and acceptance…).
16. Coordinate all the engineering activities to support construction sequence, and including the identification and implementation of improvements to processes and ways of working (e.g., redlining process on site).

Essential knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

1. Proven experience working in an equivalent / related role in the construction industry
2. Meticulous and rigorous approach to engineering to achieve high professional standards
3. Proven ability to successfully deliver engineering safely to the correct quality, time and cost in a fast paced, schedule driven environment
4. Strong people leadership skills to coordinate efficient delivery of their scope through empowerment of their team members and drawing on the necessary support from others in the organisation
5. Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders
6. Ability to work autonomously but with awareness of own limitations
7. Knowledge of contractual and commercial mechanisms.

Desirable knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

1. Degree in related engineering field
2. Chartered Engineer with relevant engineering institute
3. Good knowledge of CDM Regulations
