We are now looking to recruit Pharmacy Advisors in our Cardonald, South Queensferry and Dundee centres with the aim of working hybrid after 6 months.

Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

Our Regional Centres are located at Hillington, Cardonald, Clydebank, South Queensferry, Dundee and Aberdeen. This role will be based at our Cardonald, South Queensferry and Dundee office and will be available on a hybrid basis within 6 months of completed training.

The post holder will form part of NHS 24’s front line staff and will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professional and administrative colleagues, speaking directly to patients and handling, on behalf of the service, identified pharmacy related calls.

Pharmacy Advisors will also give advice and training to nurse practitioners, call handlers and health information advisor colleagues who require specialist pharmacy input during their consultations and interactions with patients.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Pharmacy Advisor with NHS 24 include but are not limited to the following:

  • To provide robust pharmaceutical advice and support to patients or their carer/relative through participation in direct patient/carer contact over the phone or through advice to nurse practitioners & call handlers when required whilst on the Pharmacy Support Line.
  • Working in a collaborative manner in the service and in accordance with the General Pharmaceutical Council Standards of conduct, ethics, and performance to ensure the maintenance of pharmacy professional standards within NHS 24.
  • Engaging with front line staff, creating opportunities for coaching in the live environment and establishing clear mechanisms to ensure staff feedback is effectively utilised for continuous improvement within NHS 24.

Successful Applicant will:

  • Hold a vocational Degree in Pharmacy such as MPharm Degree or equivalent.
  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Have substantial experience of Pharmaceutical practice, including working in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge/experience of community pharmacy.
  • Be proactive and can demonstrate resilience, ability to work under pressure and prioritising tasks with competing deadlines.

Hybrid Working Requirements

  • Be self-disciplined with excellent time management.
  • When home working, ensure a private space is available where employees cannot be interrupted from distractions and ensure patient confidentiality is maintained.
  • NHS 24 will provide equipment for home working however the employee must ensure all equipment or work materials are stored securely and unable to be accessed by others.
  • Have a mobile, internet connection and minimum broadband speed of 4 Mbps regardless – expectation to use own, not supplied by NHS 24.
  • Upon completion of training and 6 months of office-based working, Hybrid Pharmacy Advisors will gradually work up to contracted hours being equally split between home working and office working in our Cardonald, South Queensferry or Dundee centre.

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 7 £48,788 - £56,747 per annum (pro-rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
