Job description

Personal Care Assistant for a young boy F/T @ £17.23/hr in Ashington - FTE - £33.6k - Ashington - NE63

To provide support for a very energetic 10-year-old male child with Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of Epilepsy.


Main Duties

We are looking to recruit two Support Workers to provide support for this child who has complex healthcare needs.

  1. Provide 1:1 close supervision for the child, checking the health monitoring machines provided to monitor his heart and oxygen levels. Full training will be provided.
  2. Support the child to receive all fluids, nutrition and medication via a PEG. Full training will be provided.
  3. Changing Button, full training will be provided.
  4. Support the child with Emergency Epilepsy Medication when required, following training by Specialist Nurse.
  5. To care for this young boy, as well as engage and play with him in age-appropriate activities.

Hours

There is 1 full-time position and 1 part-time position available. Specific hours and working days will be discussed with interested applicants; some weekend working is required and also during school holiday weeks.


Rate of pay
  1. £17.23 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.
  2. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.
  3. Out of pocket expenses will be met by the employer, e.g. mileage to and from home and activities; and cost of activities agreed in advance with employer.
  4. ILG PA Employee Assistance Programme – this will be purchased by your employer after you have completed 6 weeks of employment.

Person Specification

The successful applicant must:

  1. Have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities.
  2. Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs.
  3. Have a high degree of initiative.
  4. Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised.
  5. Be flexible.
  6. Have a happy, positive and caring nature.
  7. Respect confidentiality.

Full, clean driving licence required as you will be using the owner's van which is fully insured for carers to use. The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
