Personal Care Assistant for a person P/T @ £13.74/hr in Whitley Bay - FTE - £26.8k - Whitley Bay - NE26

To provide support to a gentleman in the home with daily tasks and enabling. To support to remain as independent as possible. Females only need apply.

I am currently looking to recruit a small team of personal assistants/enablers to provide support for me in my home. The role will be to assist with personal care, meals, and the ordering of shopping and medication. I have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and my home is partially adapted for this.

I have all the equipment in place to enable me to move around my home, safely and with support. I am awaiting allocation of a wheelchair which, once I am confident around my mobility, I’m hoping to get out and about within the local community.

I will be looking to spend some enabling time to access some of my hobbies and interests, and once the team have become established and familiar with routines, I’m aiming to enjoy being out of my home. I enjoy music and arts, and I used to cycle a lot.

I enjoy watching TV, especially programs about the great outdoors. I used to produce music and my band friends visit me occasionally. I love dogs and have benefited from spending time with other people’s dogs in the past and therefore would be interested in doing this again where possible.

I am interested in healthy eating to maintain the healthy lifestyle that I have always followed.

Support Hours:

6 to 10 hours per week

MAIN DUTIES
  1. Support at home with personal care, including shower/bathing and all meals.
  2. To assist with getting up in the morning and getting into bed on an evening.
  3. Support with all moving and handling aspects, transferring to wheeled commode, using stair lift, and transferring to powered wheelchair once allocated.
  4. Support with the administration of medication and the recording of this. To also support with all other healthcare-related tasks.
  5. Support to get out and about in the great outdoors.
Rate of Pay

£13.74 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.

Person Specification
  1. Have some understanding of moving and handling; however, full training will be provided.
  2. Be patient and tolerant and observe signs of tiredness as this can happen quickly.
  3. Have some understanding of how health can impact mental health and well-being.

Must hold a full UK driving license.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required for this post; cost will be met by employer.
