Day-to-day of the role:
Carry out various typing and word-processing tasks, including shorthand, copy, and audio typing. Produce documents such as letters, reports, operation orders, and confidential documents.
Use, maintain, and update a variety of indices and record-keeping systems.
Manage all correspondence for the Chief Officer, deciding which items to handle personally and which to refer to other staff members.
Take minutes at meetings, ensuring transcripts are articulate and accurate.
Organise conferences and handle all related administrative tasks.
Accompany the Chief Officer as a Personal Assistant on work assignments outside the headquarters.
Maintain the diary appointment system and organise all related travel arrangements.
Perform additional clerical tasks as required.
Produce well-researched, accurate reports on various issues as directed by the Chief Officer.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
GCSEs grades A*-C / 9-5 in 5 subjects including English, or equivalent work experience.
A minimum of 3 years of secretarial or administrative experience in a responsible position with complex record-keeping.
Experience working with Senior Managers.
Extensive experience in typing, word processing, and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable: Recognised qualification in Office Practice or Public Administration, RSA II/III in Typing/Word Processing/Shorthand, experience in analytical work and report writing, familiarity with police organisation and structure.
