All staff must make a positive contribution to:

The Person Appointed Would Be Expected To

  1. To be responsible for up to 9 Tutor Groups per annum
  2. To register these Tutor Groups on time and accurately
  3. To support tutees within these Tutor Groups to achieve their full potential
  4. To track and monitor the academic progress of tutees against their minimum expected grades, to identify those ‘at risk’ of under-achievement, and to initiate timely intervention, to ensure that they stay on track to achieve their minimum expected grades or better
  5. To monitor tutee attendance and punctuality and, where there are concerns, to initiate timely intervention, to ensure that they attend well
  6. To monitor tutee personal conduct and, where there are concerns, to initiate timely intervention, to ensure that they behave well, and in accordance with the Mission and Catholic Ethos of the College
  7. To monitor tutee welfare and well-being and, where there are concerns, to initiate timely intervention, to ensure that they enjoy good health and well-being whilst at College. If concerns emerge which are of a safeguarding nature, to refer to the safeguarding team, following carefully the College’s safeguarding procedures
  8. To maintain accurate student records on Cedar
  9. To be responsible for Stage 2 (Level 1 Contract) of the College’s Disciplinary Policy and Procedures
  10. To refer to Stage 3 (Level 2 Contract), and Pastoral Directors, as appropriate.
  11. To deliver the group tutorials within the College’s 10:10 general tutorial programme
  12. To participate in the successful delivery of the Year 12 Careers and Higher Education programme including HE Week and the Careers Fair
  13. To provide at least two 1:1 interviews with each tutee during the year to monitor attendance, punctuality, progress, progression, and personal conduct and well-being
  14. In 1:1s to support tutees with career planning and for life beyond Carmel College. To aid this by becoming an expert user of UNIFROG
  15. To ensure tutees have access to appropriate careers advice and guidance for any proposed in-year change of course or decision to leave College.
  16. To support tutees with their UCAS applications, including checking Personal Statements, and to write their UCAS references, as required
  17. To provide job references for tutees, as required
  18. To support the Year 12 and Year 13 Pastoral Directors with resources for the 10:10 general tutorial programme, as required
  19. To support wider College activity and events, as required, such as Open Evenings and Guidance Evenings, Parents’ Welcome. The expectation is that PATs would attend 3 wider College activities/events per annum
  20. To participate fully in the College’s quality assurance of 10:10 general tutorial programme
  21. To participate fully in the College’s performance management process, and to set appropriate targets for development
  22. To participate in training and development, as required for role, and to comply with the statutory duties of the College, for example, Equality and Diversity training
  23. To provide short term cover for other Personal Achievement Tutors within team, if required
  24. To attend meetings and complete mandatory training in accordance with the colleges meeting/training schedule
  25. To assist at the colleges Open Evening / Consultation Evenings
  26. Each member of the College will take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and persons who may be affected by his/her omissions at work.
  27. To undertake any other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require.

Salary Information

Point 15 to 17 - £29,346 to £31,219 per annum (payable £23,589 to £25,095 per annum depending on experience)

Carmel College is a leading Catholic sixth form college located in St. Helens, Merseyside, specialising in Level 3 education. With a diverse student body of over 2,000, the college offers a comprehensive range of academic and vocational qualifications, catering for A Level and BTEC students, GCSE Maths and English Language resits, and a Level 4 Art Foundation course in partnership with the University of the Arts, London. The college also offers a wide variety of Foundation Degree courses at Level 5 in collaboration with The University of Liverpool. Furthermore, Carmel College maintains a well established Foundation Learning provision, offering Entry Level and Level 1 qualifications.

The college attracts students from over 100 schools across the region, with approximately 50% of students hailing from the St Helens and Knowsley boroughs, and the remainder coming from the wider Merseyside area. As a respected member of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, the Maple Group (comprising 13 high performing sixth form colleges), and the Association of Catholic Sixth Form Colleges, Carmel College works collaboratively within its sector to deliver outstanding educational experiences.
