Job description

The role will provide a specialist Paramedic resource for our Primary Care Network, supporting across 4 x Practices within our network, and including on call and care home visiting.

The role will involve working as an autonomous, accountable Paramedic, in the provision of a holistic approach for individuals including assessment, diagnosis and treatment to deliver quality patient services.

Main duties of the job
  1. Alongside the on call teams, to provide a first point of contact within the practice for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, making use of skills in history taking, physical examination, problem-solving and clinical decision-making to establish a diagnosis and management plan.
  2. To provide assessment, treatment and diagnosis at point of first contact by attending to patients in a variety of clinical or non-clinical settings according to patients needs.
  3. To undertake home visits in accordance with the relevant protocols.
  4. To make professionally autonomous decisions for which he/she is accountable. To refer patients to an alternative care setting or treat and discharge as appropriate.
  5. Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to other community or voluntary services, PCN services and to self-care.

MMWF PCN is a Primary Care Network comprising of The Mounts Medical Centre, Favell Plus Surgery, Mayfield Surgery & Maple Access Partnership Surgery. In total we provide services for over 52,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

Paramedics work autonomously within the 4 surgeries that make up our PCN using enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills, to provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems relating to minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches. We are looking for someone who has the capability to make sound judgements in the absence of full information and to manage varying degrees of risk when there are complex, competing or ambiguous information or uncertainty.

We are looking for a Paramedic who has completed their two year consolidation of learning and has a further three years experience as a band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic. To clarify, this means you will be required to have 5 years post registration experience.

  • Experience working in Primary or community care settings.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to work flexibly within core Practice hours.
  • Basic word and excel skills.
  • Car owner with a valid drivers licence.
  • Paramedic Science Degree.
  • Full registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Higher Education Qualification (level 7).
