The Opportunity: Payroll Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Manager to join the team. This is a key role, managing end-to-end payroll services for a diverse portfolio of clients while leading and developing a payroll team of 3 people.

Key Responsibilities

1. Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a variety of clients, including RTI reporting, auto-enrolment, year-end processing, and payment runs.
2. Manage client relationships, liaising with HMRC, pension providers, and handling queries.
3. Supervise a team of Payroll Administrators, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service.
4. Monitor payroll compliance, staying updated on legislation and advising partners on key changes.
5. Process BACS payments and ensure all payroll operations run smoothly.
6. Review client fees regularly, ensuring services are accurately valued and reported.
7. Support team development by mentoring staff and implementing training programs.
8. Conduct compliance and AML checks as required.
9. Prepare reports on payroll performance and present findings to senior leadership.

Required Experience

1. Proven experience in payroll (accountancy practice experience preferred, but strong industry experience considered).
2. Experience managing multiple payrolls with different pay structures (weekly, monthly, commission, bonuses).
3. Previous management or supervisory experience.

Desired Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll software (e.g., Sage).
• Accounts production software such as CCH desirable but not essential.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Ability to work proactively, show initiative, and contribute to the wider business.

Qualifications

CIPP qualification or qualified by experience, ideally 5+ years.
